A nice restaurant in a very vibrant Downtown Cary! There is good seating, both high top and low top, including outside as well. Windows have a nice view of the street outside. … More

We went to Academy Street Bistro last night, and for me, it was a 2/5 experience.
1. The Server Forgot Part of Our Order
When we placed our order, the server didn’t write anything down, and as expected, forgot a few items. I really don’t get why restaurants don’t require servers to use notepads—it would prevent mistakes and make splitting checks so much easier. Why is this still a thing?!
2. The Beer Spill Situation
When my wife got her beer in a can, she asked for a glass—not to have it poured, just a glass. The server took it upon himself to pour it, and somehow spilled a good amount while doing it. Not just a few drops—a noticeable amount. If you spill that much, shouldn’t you replace the can?
3. The Outdoor Furniture is Awful
The tables are so flimsy that when you rest your arms on them, they tilt toward you—along with everything on top. The materials are cheap and unstable, making it uncomfortable to sit and eat.
4. Price vs. Quality Doesn’t Match
My wife ordered the Ahi Tuna, and she liked it.
I had the Breaded Chicken with mashed potato-like something, and it was pretty good.
BUT—we all agreed that the food and the place itself are overpriced. $17 for Ahi Tuna (before tax) and $30 (also before tax) for Breaded Chicken feels too expensive for a place with this level of furniture, tableware, and service.
In my opinion, this place should be priced lower. Just because it’s in a historic location doesn’t mean you can charge premium prices for a mediocre setup. I know at least 10 places with the same price range but with way better interiors, quality furniture, digital ordering systems, stylish tableware, and top-notch service that pays attention to small details.

We visited Academy Street Bistro for our anniversary and were not disappointed. The Pandemic ruined so many restaurants that they lost the ability to cook. This certainly is not the case with ASB. We ordered pork belly, duck breast, … More

Just came in for some light bites. Ordered the calamari and charcuterie board which were delicious! Finally got an awesome dirty martini which has been difficult to find in the area. Lovely spot, great recommendations from our server. Lovely evening here. Oh, and the creme brûlée was divine. We’ll be back! More

I never write reviews unless they are 5 stars, but this will be my first. I ordered the braised beef short rib and a Caesar salad and this came out to $55. My beef came without the side and without the vegetable stated in the menu. My salad … More

Stopped in for lunch. Very clean establishment and the service was great! The food was just okay. I got a chicken sandwich and the chicken breast was very overcooked and dry. I couldn’t taste any seasoning or flavor besides char from the grill. The fries were great and they have a really good house made ranch. Maybe I’ll try something else next time.

Wow! Our dinner experience last night was amazing! Out waiter, Ben, was fantastic, knew exactly what to recommend and made our 9-year-old feel like MVP. The food exceeded our expectations, and felt like a NYC experience, did not feel like I was in Cary. Loved the creative flavors! I had the beet & arugula salad with added shrimp, and my husband had a steak. For appetizers we ordered Brussel sprouts and calamari. We all LOVED our food! Topped it off with a couple of desserts - creme brulee and bread pudding with ice cream. Can’t wait to go back!

The service and atmosphere were great, and I was very excited to eat there. However, they completely changed their available vegetarian options, and I was severely dissapointed. Don’t order the grain bowl! It was filled with overcooked rice and red pepper hummus, along with seemingly fresh from the can kalamata olives. Additionally, the bowl (the only main veggie option) did not even come with a side, ridiculous considering the quaint portion sizes. I stomached about three bites and ended up leaving for another restaurant. Definitely not worth the $15!
All in all, the vibes were amazing! But ruined the second the food came out.

We live downtown, and heard it was good, so when a surprise date night came we stopped in. It was 5:30 on a Friday and though it was EMPTY (one other table was sat) we were told every table but one was reserved. It was the worst table in front of the patio doors and exposed but we understood and sat without protest. When we left at 6:30, only one additional table had been sat, which honestly irritated me since a better table could easily have been had. The menu was limited and they were out of my top two choices. There was something off about each selection- crabcakes looked great for example but they were served with jerusalem artichoke. Burratta salad had melon on it in the dead of winter when surely out of season etc…. I chose the special, a winter salad with apples, dried cranberries, sweet potato and blue cheese. The dressing was lovely, greens were in wonderful shape, and flavors were delightful- however, there was only about 1/8 of an apple and maybe 5 cranberries with a dusting of blue cheese that was powdered and totaled maybe a few teaspoons- no exaggeration. The sweet potato was tiny cubes like hash and tasted like it was from frozen prepared hash (also just a scattering of it) It really felt like they were running out of food or something? The waitress really didn't seem to mind. We dont drink and had shared the sweet potato croquette appetizer, (the topping was very good) so I guess we were a low dollar table. Husband had the burrata salad which again had wonderful flavor, but he had to pick out the rock hard, flavorless melon since it was definitely out of season. Felt like a good chef hindered by the economy. Had I added chicken, maybe the toppings would have worked out?

My wife's family was visiting from Europe for the Christmas Holidays. It was busy but the staff were able to accommodate us. The tuna appetizer and brie were excellent. My steak was cooked perfectly and my Hungarian in-laws loved the pork chops! I was very impressed with the timing and how friendly everyone was. Our server, Warren was even able to describe every menu in fluent, perfect French and Hungarian to my European extended family! Really great experience all around!
